MY OWN TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
INTRODUCTION
Teaching in the 21st century is a big challenge.
Multitude number of theories, skills, and techniques are utmost important to cater
for education to younger generations. Because of that, a great emphasis is
given in teacher training institutions and colleges across the globe during
training programs.
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
Every child who completes schooling in the Maldives should possess
the maximum of his/her multiple intelligence. Age does not matter. The concept
of “promote with age” will eliminate. Students will be promoted according to
skills and capacities acquired during a particular grade. No student will be
removed or eliminated from school for any reasons. Students’ mental capacities
and multiple intelligences should be identified and catered for from grade 1
onwards. Those who do not achieve academic scores of more than 50% at the end
of grade 7 will not be offered the academic subjects in secondary grades.
Instead, they will be offered skill-based classes. Skills like, fishing, wood
works, iron works, agriculture, fiberglass works etc will be taught for those
students.
After completing grade 10, again students will be categorized. Children
who achieve 60% and above in academic subjects will be offered academic fields.
They will be trained as scholars, teachers, lecturers, doctors, nurses,
engineers, researchers, accountants, managers, lawyers etc… the rest of
students will be transferred to skill learning institutions and they will be
trained as fishermen, carpenters, masons, plumbers, farmers, electricians,
technicians, civil labourers etc…
Teachers should use variety of teaching strategies for every lesson
and facilitates students on how to learn by themselves. Teach less content with
more examples and demonstrations. Activities should be developed and created to
cater for individual differences. Try to motivate students and create a
positive attitude towards learning. Focus more on importance of learning. Organize
and carry out more field trips and experiencing journeys for students. This will
facilitate them to become more social and will feel learning a more enjoyable
task.
Every student who completes grade 10 must undertake a one year
military training under control of Maldives National Defense Force and Maldives
Police Service. After that the qualified and interested candidates could be
recruited to MNDF and police where their carrier begins as soldiers and police
servants. After this training the remaining students will continue their higher
studies and desired routes. This military training will cover a full series of self
defense, first aid training, fire and rescue, general fitness, gymnastics, love
for Islam and nation (nationalism) and so on which is essential for a healthy
society.
CONCLUTION
Our current systems have being failing. The reasons are numerous. So
if we implement my teaching philosophy with a proper frame work, I wish our
society will see a big change at a glance. But the preliminary capital
expenditure on infrastructure and human resources developments will be very
high to accomplish this philosophy.
